Does 40 gig ps3 work on ps3 slim?

does the original 40 gig hard disk from the phat ps3 with all my psn games work on a ps3 slim? i plan to upgrade to ps3 slim and just remove the hard disk from the old ps3 and tranferring it to the new ps3 slim.
