Would it be a good idea not to use tom drums?

I got some tom toms and a floor tom that sounds horrible. I've changed the heads, but it still doesn't sound good. I'm keep the b, snare, hi hats, crash, and jam block. Do you think it would sound good? I'm thinking about adding a ride and a splash cymbal.
