Why is it ok and accepted by the American public for sports teams to engage in hazing even though it's illegal

It just annoys that student organizations, high schools, NCAA athletes, fraternities etc. go through training and work hard to educate themselves on hazing and why it's wrong and a felony in some states, but yet it's ok for professional athletes to do it and it's publicized and laughed at. It also seems hypocritical that the media can on the one hand, highly scrutinize and publicize when a fraternity or student organization perform hazing but yet it's laughed at and even applauded when pro athletes do it.
